Eligible Artwork

The following criteria applies to both online and gallery exhibitions:

Allowed: 2-dimensional original paintings only. Artwork must be priced at $200 or higher.

1. Media allowed: acrylic, oil, watercolor, casein, gouache, egg tempera, encaustic, oil pastel, soft pastel, pan pastel.

2. Unframed gallery wrapped canvases and cradleboard panels (both must be at least 1.5” deep or must be framed).

3. One piece of art per panel — no diptychs or triptychs.

4. Collage is acceptable if it is no more than 20% of the painting.

5. There must be at least 90% hand produced brushstrokes or other painting utensil strokes.

6. Paintings which have been critiqued by an instructor or fellow artist.

7. Only original work is eligible. "Original" means:

a. The painting is your own composition in concept and design, painted only by you by hand from your own sketches, photos, set-ups, or other source materials created by you. Entries must not violate any copyrights.

b. Any photo reference material must have been taken by you.

c. No enhanced or embellished photos, prints or copies of others or your own artwork are allowed.

Ineligible Artwork

1. Media NOT allowed: alcohol ink, all types of drawing media (graphite, pen & ink, markers, scratch art, colored pencil), batik, digital media or images, photographs, or reproductions.

2. Photo references NOT allowed — in whole or in part — include:

a. Permission-granted photos taken by others

b. Published or unpublished copyrighted images including magazines, books, or other published materials that are the featured subjects) in the artwork

c. Purchased images

d. Stock photos

e. Vintage heirloom family photos copied verbatim

3. Work painted in a live or online class or workshop with or without the help of an instructor.

4. Use of teacher-provided images.

5. Saw tooth hangers.

6. Wet artwork!

7. Eye hook screws.

8. Multiple-opening mats.

9. Giclee prints.

10. No art installation or artwork that requires hanging from the ceiling or requires any other special procedures.

11. No painting can be entered that has been exhibited in any previous Fine Art Society exhibit.

12. No digitally manipulated work, painted giclee prints or any other type of reproductions, no manipulated or painted over photos.

13. No work that has been created with Al (artificial intelligence).
